Hey Guys. Slainte - That's the Irish word for pura vida or Kampii or Salud or plain and simply Cheers as our English friends say.
Things are good here in Ireland. The sun has been shining for 3 days straight now and the 90 day wind storm that lasted till mid January has all but been forgotten. The surf was pretty nice over Christmas. I spoke to the boys from Tramore on the south coast who reckon'd it was the best south coast surf in a decade. Bundoran and the west coast was absolutely smoking over Christmas. When it's good here it's really good but there was a lot of hardship in between.
The big wave at the cliffs broke last Friday (last friday in January). Tom the Ding King was out there on his big board with a few guys who came over from England. Mikey Smith was swimming around down there taking photos. It's full on hardcore stuff at this time of year. I think they were all taking it pretty cautious as there was no jetski in the water but by all accounts it sounded like it was 10 to 12 foot, big stuff. Tom has been in the Philippines but came back for the thick of the winter. I have been doing the opposite and dodging that period in the Florida and the Carribean. WILSIE boy got married so a crew of us went to Barbados for the last week in January. The surf was super awesome, generally over head each day and no 6/5/4 Rip Curl wetsuits which made a difference. Soup bowls was really fun over head pretty much everyday. This is what excites me at this time of year.. Roll on Spring time. The end is near..
God Bless. John
