Can’t Have Your Cake and Eat It

Yihoo. The weather is awesome here on the west coast of Ireland at the moment. It's sunny, clear skies, a bit like the med. It's flat though and freezing, just goes to show you can't have your cake and eat it. There was a epic swell last week which missed just about everywhere else in europe, it came from the North East of Ireland and just clipped a few north facing parts of the coast up north. The swell lasted 7 straight days and was double over head to head high. It's not too often that you get swells that last that long. Kelly Slater showed up for a day or so for part of a movie that is being made on Irish Surfing. Richie Fitzgerald and Gabe Davies are the main men in it and the boys have been scoring some sick barrels up and down the country. Irish Champ Cain Kilcullen was surfing near his home town of Enniscrone for the film. I watched him get a few crazy heavy barrels at a little secret slab. Hopefully the camera was rolling for that.

Last weekend there was another little swell on the west coast. We were waiting for the Cliffs of Moher to break but the tide didn't cooperate so we surfed a little shallow slab. Gavin from Dreamcatcher Productions was filming. You can see some of the footage of the Cliffs on his website.

Days are getting rapidly shorter. It's hard to get out of bed here, never mind go surfing. I went out on the jet ski yesterday doing a sightseeing tour for a couple of friends who were in town, we almost froze to death despite the sunny conditions.

Gods good.
