"The land of opportunity provided little for most top ten surfers in Trestles last week. It was interesting to see Jordy Smith and Dane Reynolds take some scalps, but with all but one top ten surfer losing before the fourth round, it pretty much left Slater with an easy path to the final - and to his new number two ranking going in to France. We've got a title race again, this time between the onfire Fanning and the ever slippery Slater, who in my opinion, surfed better at Trestles than anywhere else this year. Very Ominous! The results here lent insight into what will be an even more interesting 2008, with the introduction of these two hyped-up hopes: Reynolds and Smith! They are both a few years away from world titles, but they will definitely be taking taking more scalps in their first year on tour in 2008. They will also bring a brand of surfing to the tour that could potentially spell the end of simple surfing once and for all. With more tricks than Copperfield built into their functional arsneol, they could just leave their flightless foes behind..."
