
The announcement that one of the world’s most experienced surfers, Jake “The Snake” Paterson (AUS), has been awarded a wildcard into the Quiksilver Pro presented by Samsung is sure to send shivers through the worlds top ranks.

While the major focus of the upcoming ASP World Champions’ Banquet to be held on the Gold Coast of Australia on February 24th, 2007 will be the official crowning of 2006 World Champions Kelly Slater (USA) and Layne Beachley (AUS), two surfers who will also be savouring their moment in the spotlight will be 2006 ASP Rookies of the Year Bobby Martinez (USA) and Jessi Miley-Dyer (AUS).

Twenty eight year old Daniel Kereopa of Raglan secured the top podium spot in the Open Men’s Division of the Hyundai National Championships this weekend. Not happy with one title, Kereopa also won his first open longboard title and senior men’s (over-28s) title. His verdict on winning the title in Taranaki, New Zealand was a simple: "I’m stoked!"

The Hot Tuna Summer Classic took place on the Mornington Peninsula Victoria, Australia this weekend with epic surf conditions that caused six boards to snap in the first morning of competition!

Sixteen surfers are left for the Hard Rock Cafe Junior Pro as wave performances were at their highest level yesterday at Sunset Beach, Hawaii. Forty eight surfers started out in the event and were treated to eight to twelve foot faces with perfect off shore winds during the first round. By round two, a light on shore breeze made for challenging conditions and wave knowledge became a factor for the young guns.

The Monster Energy Pipeline Pro, presented by Billabong, returns to the North Shore of Oahu this week, kicking off on January 27th at the Banzai Pipeline. The event, the first professionally rated big-wave surfing contest of 2007, will draw more than 160 competitors from 11 nations, all out for a piece of Pipeline glory and a share of the $75,000 prize purse.

The Roxy Womens Surf Festival 2007, an ASP 5 Star WQS Womens Event, will be taking place from 22-29th January at Phillip Island, Victoria, Austarlia.

Surfing's future will be let loose on the Hurley Burleigh Pro Junior with the world’s top 20-years and under surfers battling it out for the inaugural title next week. Burleigh Heads, Australia, renowned for its warm waters and freight train barrels will provide the ultimate surfing arena for 192 new wave warriors between 22-28th January, 2007.

More Beach announces its 2nd Annual Winter Surfing Photo & Writing Contest. Once again the theme is "Winter Surfing." Surfers and their friends are invited to submit pictures and words that capture the winter surfing experience. Winter surfing is about soulfulness and exhilaration, beauty and fear, being cold and getting warm again. There's more than a touch of insanity too.

The 2007 ISA World Masters Surfing Championships will feature some of the best master’s surfers from around the globe competing for their respective countries January 20-28, 2007 in Rincon, Puerto Rico. The event will be hosted by the Puerto Rico Surfing Federation, the national governing body for the sport of surfing in the Puerto Rico.
