Usual Suspects Firing in Round 1 of Honda US Open
Round 1 of the Honda U.S. Open of Surfing presented by O'Neill has kicked off with improved 1-metre waves on offer at Huntington Beach Pier. As the biggest Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) event in North America, the 6-Star U.S. Open boasts one of the most competitive draws in the region, and the Day 1 action saw regular standouts performing at levels above the fold.
French Polynesia hosts ASP European Longboard Titles
From July 24th to 29th , the world’s best longboarders will gather in the beautiful archipelago of French Polynesia, on the island of Tahiti for a battle for both women’s and men’s European titles. The black sand beach of Taharuu, Papara, will be the location for the 4 Star WLT event and is known to offer great surfing potential on all conditions, from 3 to 8+ ft swells.
Taj Burrow Defeats Kelly Slater to Win Billabong Pro Jbay
Australian Taj Burrow beat eight-time Foster’s ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (USA) to win the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay this weekend. The victory is Burrow’s second on the 2007 Foster’s ASP World Tour and has moved him to World No. 2 on the ASP ratings.

Having won SIMA Campaign of the Year for 'Dead Modern', the stakes were high, but Insight never fails to impress... Welcome 'ZOUP'. This campaign sees surf, skate and fashion all propelled into a visual fantasy made lovingly (and painfully) by the dedicated Insight art team. Insight don’t use tricks. The images you see are all the result of months of effort to realize a vision. When Steve Gorrow said he was off to Bali for 'work', the Insight guys were all pretty much sure he’d scammed a month in the sun with five days of shooting. Then the images returned and impressive is too small a word. Mountain high (literally) art installations provide the setting for surf stars including Luke Stedman (Aus), Kai Otton (Aus), Warren Smith (USA), Jared Mell (USA), Jason Apparicio (FR) and Icah Wilmot and The Jamaican Team (Jam). Steve G, and helpers, laboured for weeks creating the images you see. Those arms in the ocean are real, the face on the cliff edge real, the feats of the surfers all real.
UK Surf Pro Alan Stokes Launches New Animal Surf Academy
Local surf pro Alan Stokes will be opening the new Animal Surf Academy on Friday 20th July. Alan will be welcoming the new wave of surfers to the sea by coaching 45 local school children at a free surf lesson and day out at the ASA on Tolcarne Beach in Newquay.
