
After a wet summer, there’s fresh inspiration for retailers as Surf Shop Expo 2007 opens its doors for business. The show combines the best in hardware, footwear, streetwear, swimwear, eyewear and accessories, and new exhibitors are still booking up for the UKs leading trade show for the boardriding industry.
With the same inconsistent swell, the third day of the Buondi Billabong Pro 6 Star WQS restarted at the beach of Sao Juliao, fifteen minute drive south from the main event site of Ribeira d’Ilhas. The 2 to 3 ft (1 meter) waves were clean, glassy and heat 7 could open another day of action in good contestable conditions.
It wasn’t a typical day of competition today, as the weak swell wasn’t offering any clear options to get the event running. After the 7.30 Am check-in for the remaining heats of round 1, the Buondi Billabong Pro got underway at Sao Juliao with heat 14 in clean 2 to 3 ft glassy waves.

The Buondi Billabong Pro 6 Star WQS event got underway today in the world famous town of Ericeira, home of the current WQS #3 and defending champion Tiago Pires (PRT). Due to inconsistent swell at Ribeira D’Ilhas, the event was moved south to the beachbreak of Sao Juliao, clean 2 ft righthanders offeringg the first contestants a good start.
The last days of August will once again be the time to drop by the Buondi Billabong Pro, the most traditional WQS event held in Portugal, at Ribeira d’Ilhas, Ericeira. Being a 6 star event, with USD 125.000 prize to offer, the Buondi Billabong Pro is one of the most important stops in the WQS tour as it ends the European summer leg.
Australian 24-year-old Shaun Cansdell (Emerald Beach, NSW) has defeated 21-year-old American Dane Reynolds (Ventura, CA) to win the year’s biggest World Qualifying Series surfing contest – the Rip Curl Pro Super Series in Seignosse, France.
Despite another day of rain and unfavourable winds, the swell continued to hit the designated sandbank at Rip Curl Pro Super Series contest site all day today, allowing contest officials to complete Round 3 in contestable 3-4ft (1-1.5m) waves.

It took Jordy Smith (ZAF) a mere two minutes to stake his claim as the man to beat in this year's Rip Curl Pro Super Series World Qualifying Series (WQS) contest. Although the 18-year-old only arrived in Seignosse this morning, he paddled out in Heat 5 of Round 2 and recorded a near perfect 9.77-point (out of 10) score on his very first wave.

The next scheduled tour date for the third leg of the UK Pro Surf Tour is The 2007 “Summer of ‘69” Hot Tuna Pro surfing championship, set for August 25-26th at Widemouth Bay in Bude. The UK Pro Tour’s Hot Tuna event will now be known as a travelling event, changing locations year on year to give a fresh look to the event through the mid summer months.
