Zarautz has the longest beach on the Gipuzkoan coast and waves that are famous the world over. These qualities have for years attracted surfers from all corners of Europe.
Zarautz is an exposed beach break that is usually a safe bet. Summer offers the optimum conditions for surfing, particularly if the wind direction is from the south. The area tends to receive a mix of groundswells and windswells and the ideal swell angle is from the north-northwest. The beach breaks offer lefts and rights and surf is best around high tide. The beach is always buzzing with a very cool atmosphere and relatively cool water temps, averaging 15°C.
